The EP that this recital concludes takes its title from the city that inspired the production of the material. Spending time in Venice made the artist think a lot about, not just the architectural connections between this city and their hometown, Nicosia, but also the postcolonial history that hangs over Cyprus, reified in the form of the Venetian walls—beautiful, but symbolic of something darker. As such, the work is as intricate as it is heavy, and finally manages to capture the kind of sounds we hear from the artist in rave and club settings; somehow a mixture of motherly yet ferocious.
In the context of the venexia’s release, ioli produced a recital that will air on our radio, sequencing the EP’s tracks with specific external material. The recital both offers a completed vision for the rave-oriented tracks, and a way of getting a sense of what ioli sees when they behold the collision of Venice and Nicosia.
